End of Life Vehicles Directive
The End of Life Vehicles Directive is an EU Directive addressing the end of life for automotive products. Every year, motor vehicles which have reached the end of their useful lives create between 8 and 9 million tonnes of waste in the European Union. The directive is aimed at cars and light commercial vehicles.
Vehicles must first be de-polluted of automotive fluids, batteries, air bags and air conditioning units. After valuable salvaged parts are removed they are baled and sent to metal reclamation facilities.
